My students need inflatable wobble cushions, balance ball desk chairs with legs, plastic stack stools, and inflatable chairs as part of our flexible seating classroom.
I have approximately 75 students, many of whom are from low income families and single parent homes. Although many of them face various challenges at school and at home, they remain excited about learning. I can't control the struggles that they face outside of school, but I can control my classroom environment and provide them with the tools they need to be successful academically.
Many of my students struggle with focus and attention, so traditional seating may not be best for them.
Research shows that allowing children to wiggle and move helps with attention and keeps them engaged. This project will allow us to experience those benefits in our classroom.
My Project
Your donations will allow my students to have a variety of seats to choose from. My seventy-five fifth graders will be able to spread out around the room during math using inflatable balance disks, balance ball desk chairs, plastic stools, and inflatable chairs. My goal is to allow my students to take on the responsibility of selecting the seat that will promote their best learning, and for them to take ownership of our furniture and classroom. By creating a space for them that is more student centered, I hope to make the room "our daytime home" rather than just another classroom. We are all excited to use flexible seating in our room!
