"Knowledge is Power" ~Francis Bacon. Fifth graders hunger for knowledge about how the world really works. It is my job to teach my fifth graders as much as I can about the world and about their country. This can be done through hard work, dedication, and extra resources.
I teach in a rural community school.
The classroom is full of old materials and old furniture, yet my students will come in on the first day of school and make our classroom their home. The students and I will look past the beat up desks and torn books. We will instead create an environment that is rich in learning. The fifth graders I teach come from a variety of different backgrounds and home lives. Some of them have parents who work more than one job and are not home in the evenings. Others speak a different language at home and work to keep their native language alive. One thing that is the same for all of my students though is their love for learning and their need for more.
My Project
Have you ever had so much energy that it is hard to focus on what is going on right in front of you? Or tried to read the same line in a book over and over again because you keep getting distracted?
I try to make learning fun and engaging every day.
I do many activities and collaborative projects. The students who are coming to my classroom this year are full of energy and excitement for learning. I am looking for some alternative seating options to help my students stay focused and get into their ultimate learning zones.
I am asking for 4 wobble stools and two wobble cushions for students to use during independent work time and whole class instructional time to help them stay focused on the task.
All of these items will help encourage a focused learning environment while taking in to account the different needs of my students.
