My Students

I share my classroom with an incredibly diverse and insightful group of 12-13 year olds. Our school is made up of almost 63% socioeconomically disadvantaged students, almost 25% language learners, and 9.5% students with disabilities. These kids bring so many unique stories and experiences to the classroom and they deserve a special place to learn from each other's immeasurably valuable perspectives.

My school celebrates diverse learning experiences and supports them in my English Language Arts Inclusion classroom.

My class is student-centered and highly collaborative. They learn more from each other than they ever could from just me, so most of my lessons focus on creating opportunities for academic discourse and cooperation. My classroom encourages critical thinking and pushes students to challenge themselves with new ideas and skills and they never cease to amaze me with their resilience and determination.

My Project

Having a smaller and more intimate alternative to our larger group tables would be an incredible help for students who struggle with focusing. I teach Inclusion classes, which means I have many students with special needs and sometimes what they need most is simply their own isolated work space.

These bistro sets are small enough that they can seamlessly fit into my class and offer that valuable seating alternative to students who need it.

Students can be comfortable and productive in these seemingly unconventional work spaces without distractions.

Don't we, as adults, sometimes need a different work space like a coffee shop to be more productive? Help me give that same alternative to students!
