In our 2nd and 3rd grade classroom, school days are busy and full of learning! My kids come to me with the foundation of reading and math skills ready to take off! In our classroom, students dive into new areas of learning within science and social studies, through discovery and a desire for more experience with technology.
Our school is a K-6 Elementary school with at least an 80% FREE breakfast AND lunch rate.
This doesn't hold my students back from setting huge goals for their future. We work hard to meet our goals and overcome obstacles in our way. Flexible seating is a very helpful tool because the students are given options and are able to make choices about which seat would work best for them. The students have the chance to sit at all the seats, and can even move their seats during class. This focuses on helping them to productively learn and succeed through their individuality!
My Project
Switching my classroom to flexible seating has been one of the best decisions that I have made. The students have the ability to sit on floor cushions at a desk, yoga balls, stand at desks, or sit in normal chairs.
Through flexible seating, I have seen more engagement and fewer behavior issues in my classroom.
Flexible seating allows the students to become accountable for their learning and to better understand how they learn. My students also have the choice of changing seats during the lesson if one isn't working. This has given my students the chance to take ownership of their learning and discover how they learn best. I have seen the benefit of this. I am asking for wobble chairs and wobble cushions mainly for students who need the opportunity to move more in their seat. These products will help encourage the students to try different seating options to better understand where they learn best!
