I teach Spanish to high school students. They are so eager and excited to learn a new language and to be able to put it into practice in their community and with their friends.
I teach in an inner city school and most of my students are African-American or Hispanic.
All of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and receive free lunch. There is a lot of gang violence and crime in the surrounding neighborhoods, but my students are motivated to learn. They are eager to master a new language!
Having a small area of our classroom designated for flexible seating will help us meet the learning needs of all of our students. Giving students choice allows them to take ownership of their learning by making choices that will help them be more engaged. I want to create a seating area that includes a sofa for student use.
Some students learn better if they are provided flexible seating options.
Sitting in a chair is simply not the best way for all students to learn and I would love for my students to have the option to sit on a sofa when they need it. Providing a more relaxed seating option often helps to reduce stress and anxiety and helps students be more engaged in their learning.
