Flexible Seating to Help First Graders Stay Focused!
Help me give my students flexible seating options to enhance their learning. Students with ADHD feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.
My students are a group of energetic first graders who come to school each day eager to learn. They attend a high poverty, Title I school in rural Georgia and over 85% of my children live in poverty. Our elementary school is a low income, rural school that has children that are homeless.
Regardless of our socioeconomic status, these students are young, ambitious, and smart.
Despite their hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn as much as they can so they can be successful. I teach an amazing group of first graders who come to school each day with smiles on their faces.
My Project
These materials will help my ADHD students in so many ways. They will get the chance to take control of their learning. They will begin making choices about how to feel comfortable in the space around them. The portable desk will allow them the ability to move and continue working in another area if they are not comfortable where they are at in the room. The Sensory chair bands will keep active children occupied so they will remain seated and can focus better. Kids can push, pull, kick, and bounce on the band with their feet while sitting.
My children enjoy the ability to make choices and problem solve.
If they need to move because someone is distracting them or they just need a little wiggle space these items will be able to allow them to do it and best of all it will not become a distraction to their learning or their classmates.
