I teach in a first grade classroom in a Pre-K through 3rd grade building. There are 8 first grade classrooms in my school, and there are twenty-one students in my classroom! The community is very engaged and active where teachers know almost all of the children and families. We see most parents several times a week for drop-off and pick-up.
Enthusiastic, creative, active, and engaged; my students are constantly stretching their brains and wanting to learn and grow!
They are constantly working, but they are limited to where they are able to work. I want to be able to give my students the option to be able to grow and make choices about where they do their best work.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work time, my students have choices of where they may work in the classroom. Currently my students are choosing to work in various spaces in the classroom using lap desks, clipboards, bean bags, butterfly chairs, tables, and desks. If my students are uncomfortable where they are working, it is hard to motivate them. I have many students who need to get up and move around.
I have noticed that my students are much more actively engaged and willing to learn when they are given a choice in their own learning!
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The comfy floor seats will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
