Help me give my students flexible seating options to keep them engaged in class! These items will not only help my students be comfortable, but will also be used to calm anxiety, hyperactivity, and increase positive attitudes!
My students come from many different backgrounds, speak many different languages, and bring incredible experiences with them to school every day. I am extremely excited to learn alongside my amazing students in a classroom that provides them the resources they need to thrive.
My students are not just third graders; they are readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, historians, teachers, friends, citizens, among hundreds of other roles.
These children are my main focus, and this year will revolve around engaging them in exciting, meaningful, and exploration-based learning. Together, we will be challenged, have fun, and will create a strong classroom community!
My Project
Knowing that my students spend 6-7 hours per day in my classroom, I have tried to make it a welcoming and comfortable environment for all. While sitting on a hard chair at a square desk may sound appealing to some, for most 8 and 9 year olds, it seems almost impossible. By incorporating flexible seating options into my classroom, I will be working towards making sure that all of my students with their very diverse needs feel comfortable and welcomed.
Providing students with a choice in where or how they work creates an environment that encourages calmness, focus, and productivity.
Research has backed the effectiveness of flexible seating in classrooms-- not only does it help students feel comfortable while working, it can also lead to improved physical health, collaboration skills, and a built sense of community within the classroom. One of the best things about flexible seating is the support it can give students with sensory needs, such as ADD, ADHD, Autism, and more. All students deserve the tools they need to succeed, and I feel like that flexible seating could be that tool for a lot of students.
