Flexible Seating To Encourage Collaboration and Communication
My students need spaces and places to work that encourages them to collaborate with one another as well as gives them voice and choice when setting up their individual work space.
As we begin a new school year we are mindful of the impact that Hurricane Harvey continues to have on many of our students, teachers, and our community. As we work together to recover and rebuild I want my students to build a new working environment in our classroom. One that is comfortable and flexible. My students participate in a special program for those who have been identified as gifted and talented. They come to my class with a million questions and a thirst for information. They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box including lessons that encourage not only academic growth but also social-emotional growth.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning so having a comfortable and welcoming classroom environment that is conducive to learning and collaborating with one another is crucial.
Our active classroom encourages movement and the ability to cooperate and collaborate with each other as they learn independently or as a group. These students are a truly incredible group of learners that are excited to learn and ready to share their learning with the each other.
My Project
We are in rebuild and recovery mode from Hurricane Harvey. Because of this experience, I am mindful that in our classes we are working on academic learning and social-emotional learning. Creating spaces that allow group learning as well as independent learning in important in our active classroom.
My goal is flexible and comfortable furniture that can be easily rearranged by the students to create their own workspaces.
Computer chairs that roll and comfortable club seats that can be moved will allow my students to create workspaces for independent or for cooperative learning. It also allows them to have independence in creating the spaces that will help them work and learn best.
