Flexible Seating to Accomodate ALL Learning Styles
Help me give my students flexible seating options throughout our computer lab so they will be able to choose what fits their needs best and allows them to be the most successful.
My students come from diverse backgrounds with diverse abilities. I have students who struggle with basic math facts and others who know how to use exponents and square roots in equations. Some of my students love and appreciate the fine arts, others enjoy reading and writing, many are athletic, some face learning challenges yet are fully-included in my classroom. They all have areas of strength and areas of need. But the one thing they share is a desire to engage in meaningful learning in which they can teach and learn from each other. Our school is a suburban California Distinguished School and has been open for eleven years. As a staff, we take pride in teaming at our grade levels to try to provide the highest quality instruction and innovation we can.
My Project
ALL students need as many opportunities as possible to learn and sometimes that means then need to move, wiggle and use their bodies. Staying in one place for too long (especially a hard chair!) can be very difficult for them, not to mention, not healthy.
By providing flexible seating options throughout our computer lab, the kids will be able to choose what fits their needs best and allow them to be more successful in their learning.
Having chairs, bean bags and other alternative seating options will encourage them to focus as they dive into the world of electronic learning. Wobble cushions are to give fidgety students an outlet. Often when a student is having trouble focusing, giving them a chance to sit differently can make all the difference.
