Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 4th grade students attend a public school in Chicago. They are full of questions every day and are committed to their learning. They inspire me every day with their perseverance. Even when they struggle, they do not give up and do not hesitate to ask for help.
Despite any hardships they may be enduring outside of the classroom, my students still find it in themselves to put all their effort into their work and come to school with a positive attitude.
My students love learning about all different subjects, diverse cultures, and different strategies they can use in all their academic courses. They also highly enjoy hands-on projects, as well as anything that involves arts and crafts. I feel very lucky to have such a great group. They inspire me every day!
My Project
These flexible seating options will give my students more choice in where they choose to sit. My students often have the freedom to choose where they sit in the classroom during independent reading or work time. However, our classroom currently does not have a variety of flexible seating options. These items will provide my students with more opportunities to switch up where they do their work and give them more chances to explore which seats help them focus the most.
Being able to use flexible seats helps motivate my students and allow them to be comfortable while they are reading or working.
I have plenty of students that struggle to sit in their desk chair for extended periods of time. These flexible seating options will allow students to move around and get their energy out, while still being able to focus on their work. Also, giving students the freedom to choose their seats instills a sense of responsibility in them that will show them the value of making a good choice for yourself to sit in a place where you will be able to focus.
I have seen how motivated and engaged my students are when they use flexible seating!
