Flexible Seating: Putting Kindergarteners in Control of Their Own Learning!
My students need seating options to fit their busy bodies to do their best learning. Flexible seating will help the children who move while they learn so they getting the most out of their education.
I am a Kindergarten teacher with 15 wonderful, lovable, energetic, active and busy students. We live in a rural area and our school of 200 is located in a small town that has less than 1,000 people. Around 40% of the students in our school are on free and reduced lunch. Even though our students come from different backgrounds, they are all exceptional little people and I believe in them all, 100%!
I truly believe that I live in a wonderful community, teach in a great school and I'm proud of how the parents, students and staff work together to do the best for our children!
We are very lucky to have a fully funded preschool that allows our 3 year old and 4 year old children to come to school a couple days of week so that when they get to Kindergarten, they are so excited to come everyday!
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go.
Six of the floor seats will go around a large rectangular table that we already have in the classroom.
This table is used when we have to do writing and other seated work. The other six will be for students to use around the classroom. They will be able to use the seats for a variety of activities such as story time, group work, carpet time and reading.
The wobble stools will be used for students at tables to help their active bodies concentrate on their work.
