This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a social worker for an elementary school. My students range from Pre-k to 5th grade. I have the opportunity to work with students on short-term and long-term basis. Short-term services address a student's emotional needs during a crisis. Long-term services support students that require on-going support through their 504 plans or special education services.
My students have a variety of sensory needs and utilizing creative tools like a flex-space wobble chair will assist with their success in the school community.
All students meet success in different ways and creative tools promote success.
My Project
The flex-space wobble chairs will be used in the clinical office during structured individual and group activities. Students that participate in ongoing clinical services, often participate in group sessions that focus on social emotional learning activities.
The flex-space wobble chairs makes learning fun, promotes sharing, and supports students with sensory needs.
The flex-space wobble chairs assists students with ADD/ADHD and other sensory disorders by improving their ability to concentrate and stay in their seat longer. Many students in elementary schools have excessive energy. The flex-space wobble chair also allow students to get their "wiggles" out and allows a reduction in fidgeting behaviors without disrupting others.
