My classroom consists of 26 students who are eager to learn and are in need of multiple options to feel comfortable, safe, and relaxed in their learning environment.
All of the students in my classroom are hardworking, engaged, and motivated learners who come from a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, and language backgrounds.
Each student is working at a different reading, writing, and math level. On a daily basis, I provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all of my students. While providing differentiated instruction, I would like to allow my students the choice to work in an area where they can be the most comfortable and productive.
My Project
My students need three bean bags, a soft rug, and stackable stools so they have the opportunity to work where they feel the most comfortable and productive. If my students are provided with these items, they will not be stuck at their hard desks or on the hard, cold, and uncomfortable floor. They will have the opportunity to choose a place where they feel comfortable to learn. Research proves when students have a choice, they are more likely to succeed. There is a direct correlation with student choice and academic achievement.
When I asked my students what books they wished we had in our classroom library, they shared many of their favorite books with me.
We were able to get these books thanks to an amazing donor. Once we received our books, the discussion then turned into how uncomfortable it was to sit in their hard chairs or on the hard floor. Then, I had them imagine how fabulous it would be to have a child-sized couch and comfy rug to curl up on while reading together!
By donating to our project, you will not only help with student engagement, you will also help to increase academic achievement as well.
