The school I teach at is seventy percent free or reduced-price lunch and many of these students come from a low-income family. I teach a first grade class. In our room, we like to have fun! We do a variety of different engaging activities and have a lot of fun while learning. Having a positive classroom environment is very important and has a direct impact on student success. School is a safe haven for many of my students. We love and support each other; we are a family.
My Project
I want to encourage my students to learn once they walk into my classroom by giving them choices to sit however is their best way to learn. By allowing students to choose their seat, flexible classroom seating allows students to sit or stand in a way that best suits their body. Some students have a tendency to move, some wiggle, some bounce, some sit with perfect posture. Flexible seating like stools, bouncy balls, floor seats and kick bands allow students to physically become more comfortable and focused while they are learning. I have begun introducing flexible seating options and my students have exceeded my expectations! I would love to add additional exercise balls (a popular choice!) to help students bounce while they work. In addition to giving them more stool options, these take up less space and my kiddos love the freedom of this option! I would love to give my students more options to allow them to fully reach their potential!
