I co-teach with another teacher, and together we have 46 amazing students in our classroom family. They are full of energy and are excited to learn. Our building is considered a high poverty school where most students receive free or reduced lunches. Eighteen of our 44 students receive Title I reading and Tier 2 intervention. We have six students with IEPs and three students that see our OT/PT specialists.
Students come to school for more than education; they come to school to be loved.
Our classroom is run like a family. Students learn to be leaders, they are given opportunities for language development through life experiences and they are taught to care for one another through respect and responsibility.
My Project
I get to spend each day sharing the responsibility with a co-teacher for 44 children who are excited for every second of learning that comes their way in Kindergarten. We are in a school that houses 48% of our students on free and reduced lunches. The barriers that come with that statistic doesn't stop us! We are a class of learners where EVERYONE is capable of learning and learning to be leaders!
Learning in our classroom sometimes may look a bit crazy and silly, but my students and I sure have fun laying the bricks and motor for the foundation of their educational careers.
It is my ultimate goal is to provide an environment that makes EVERY child successful in my classroom. Part of that goal allows me to give my students flexible seating choices. Flexible seating allows students to choose a space in the room that best suits their specific needs and preferences for success. Yes! Even Kindergarteners can learn how to identify their preferences and strengths in their learning! Purchasing Classic Birch All-Purpose Classroom Storage Tray Center will allow my students to still have “their own space” for their supplies, notebooks, etc. that cannot be housed at flexible seating spaces. As flexible seating will allow students to choose their spaces each day, or even multiple times a day, the storage center gives each child a consistent space for their own supplies and keeps our learning space organized.
Thank you for helping my students take ownership over their space in our learning environment!
