My students need Wobble chairs to help them focus during lessons. My group of students is very active and movement allows them to focus in class. Having flexible seating options will benefit every student.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a fourth grade teacher at a school in the heart of Baltimore City. This school is a Title I school that supports a diverse group of students. Students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds with many needs being present. My students are excited to learn and challenge themselves every day. To adequately serve my students, I want to be able to offer them a home away from home. As a first year teacher, I need support in making this dream a reality.
I serve Baltimore City students and families whose needs range from behavioral and emotional support, to children with disabilities, and even those who come from low income families.
My goal is to instill the values of education and determination into every student that I teach in order to set them up for long-term success.
My Project
My students focus best when they have opportunities to move and fidget in their seats. I would love to have tools for them to use in the class that will allow them to wiggle and fidget without being distracting to others; while also being able to focus on the lesson themselves.
Wobble chairs, wiggle pads, kick-bands, and sensory fidget tools are amazing resources that would be used daily by my students.
Every student in my class would benefit from having flexible seating options. Being able to move and get out extra energy in a productive way while still being engaged in the lesson is possible with the use of appropriate tools.
