My students need flexibility in their seating options, providing movement and sensory needs that will enable them to focus on their class work. Students with special needs often require tools and devices to support their learning.
Students in my classroom are students classified as having special needs. Students come to my classroom with a variety of strengths and needs. Autism, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorders, Emotional Disturbance, Intellectually Impaired, Processing Disorders, Hearing Deficits, Learning Disabilities as well as a variety of Health Impairments are challenges that face my students on a daily basis. Students come from diverse backgrounds ranging from homeless/migrant status to affluent families, overall the school is considered a Title 1 School.
My Students have strengths and talents that are not supported in a typical classroom.
Having faced multiple challenges by the time they get to High School often students are presented as difficult individuals, students who have given up, or sometimes as just not caring. These students need a comfortable and welcoming environment to support their many unique needs. Helping students make connections, become comfortable and creating a safe place will help encourage their progress.
The items this grant provides will allow students flexibility in their seating options, providing movement and sensory needs that will enable them to focus on their class work. Students with special needs often require tools and devices to support their learning.
Balance Ball Chairs will allow students movement while staying in their learning space, sensory stimulation to refocus their attention back to the learning task and a chance to release excess energy which will promote their focus to the learning environment.
Providing students a variety of options to help with sensory regulation, options to promote positive movement as well as options to help refocus when the school environment becomes to much will allow my students to find success in their education. When students feel as they can be successful they often are more eager and willing to engage in their learning.
