Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in Room 10 are very special people. Every individual in here wears a big heart on their sleeve. They all care so deeply about each other in the classroom, and about peers outside of the room. We talk to each other as though we are family, and we mean what we say.
Students in Room 10 value learning from each other and their teachers.
They've truly instilled a growth mindset, and what's exciting about that is that they are young and learning this early on! They love to share their talents and strengths, and are not afraid to share their weaknesses. They are a good group of inspiring friends.
My Project
Students survived a whole trimester with flexible seating options in our classroom. Our classroom has a different tables with different seating options. There is a table with bands and wiffle balls, stools, crates, WAS a table with yoga balls, and pillows. I have incorporated flexible seating in Room 10 for the past two years. It has been an exciting change for students, and you can see their focus increase when students are comfortable.
We had yoga balls, and those survived through staples and busy kids for several weeks.
However, those have popped and we need a better solution for our kids. I am looking to replace some items that have gone through wear and tear, and a different option to replace the yoga balls. Our carpet just cannot keep up with the kids. I would feel terrible going back to traditional school chairs for all students.
We have set up our seating so that each student gets a fair chance at trying out each seating option. Some student's already have an absolute favorite place to be, and I wouldn't want to take that away from them. They spend a great amount of time in our classroom working extremely hard, and I think it's only fair that I can provide a nice working space for them.
