Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My future 2nd graders need flexible seating!
Creating a safe classroom community throughout the school year is important to become a community of young people who take risks to learn! Our classroom is home to 25 second graders, most of whom come from bilingual and immigrant households.
In an underfunded school district, we would greatly appreciate resources to continue our learning! Since the revolution of flexible seating, students have been motivated to choose their just right seat each day. Our more than 11 years old desks and chairs provide no motivation for learning. They will enjoy sitting on yoga balls, stools and using tables rather than desks. They love technology and use iPads daily. I am writing this to reward them by providing flexible seating, if my students are happy and comfortable, everything will fall into place for them at school.
My Project
My students need flexible seating options such as wobble chairs, comfy floor seats, and balance ball seats. By having alternative seating options in my classroom, students are able to choose which space works best for them to learn. Giving students this freedom to choose their own learning space not only increases student engagement and focus, but also teaches students responsibility and gives them opportunities to make good choices.
