My students from Oklahoma are 11th and 12th grade kids in a high-poverty, rural community. My part-time students range from 7th grade to 11th grade and are in my reading remediation classes.
Some of these students in this school have reading levels as low as third grade.
The students at my school are happy, creative, and inquisitive teenagers who love learning in a variety of different forms. At my school, we encourage literacy and emphasize the value of education. Our kids know the value of hard work.
My Project
Flexible seating is perfect for allowing students to make decisions that benefit them and take responsibility for their learning. Students must be comfortable in order to focus on what they are doing. My middle school students absolutely love being able to lay and sit wherever they want for reading time, and my high school students are already fantastic at choosing what seating arrangements work best for them. I want the students to be able to make their own choices and build good habits for success.
I always put a heavy emphasis on college and real life skills, and I believe that students should foster these skills early in order to be successful in life.
I went to a high school that uses flexible seating and noticed a change in myself as well as my peers, and I want the same for my students.
