Our school is a kindergarten through 8th-grade school in the Fairmount area of Philadelphia. Most of my students are bused to school. They are from all areas of Philadelphia. There are 15 students with all intellectual disabilities in this Life Skills support classroom. The students work on academics, as well as skills they will need for independent living.
The students enjoy coming to school each day.
They really love their peers and the adults who work in the classroom! We have birthday parties for each student and we celebrate every holiday! We are all one big family!
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to find comfortable positions to learn and thrive in the classroom. When the students are comfortable in the classroom, they are calm, focused and productive in the classroom.
Our classroom currently has traditional desks and chairs.
The special education students in this Life Skills Support classroom will benefit from flexible seating options such as wobble chairs, floor seats, and wobble cushions. The students will be able to wobble, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. This help helps minds focused and alert throughout the school day! The students in the Life Skills Support classroom will truly benefit from flexible seating options.
