My students are gifted learners who are enrolled in the magnet program for arts and technology at Emma K. Doub! Children are gifted when their ability is significantly above the norm for their age. Giftedness can manifest in one or more domains, such as intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership skills.
If you have ever had the opportunity to work with gifted learners, you know that they are a unique, curious, funny, brilliant, creative, and very diverse population.
And you will also know that they can have difficulty processing the intensity of their emotions, struggle with attention issues, and are not exempt from being diagnosed with autism, learning disabilities and/or ADHD.
My Project
In order to meet the needs of my incredible students, I would like to provide them with some ways to move and direct their energy in order to promote more active engagement in the learning process. I believe that a classroom should be a safe and healthy learning environment at all times, and providing students with choices is an important part of that. Students with kinesthetic needs (or should I say...kids!) need the freedom to wiggle when they're tired or excited, spread their work out on a carpet to get a big-picture view and escape to do their assignment in a quiet and comfortable space.
