Mrs. Burks from Chicago IL is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a variety of unique seating options to choose from. In particular, I am seeking Jellyfish chairs, Wobble stools, and a bean bag chair to add to my classroom.

I am a kindergarten teacher at a public school. My students are a remarkably energetic, lively, and enthusiastic group of kindergarteners. They love to move and are constantly seeking to explore their new learning environment at school.
I have 24 amazing little kindergarteners that come from all different backgrounds and have a desire to want to learn.
The school’s student body is made up of students from African American (59%), Caucasian (17%), Asian (8%), Hispanic (8%), and other (8%) backgrounds and is 58% lower income.
Due to recent budget cuts in Chicago Public Schools, we are unfortunately currently unable to provide students with furniture that would benefit their schooling experience.
Flexible seating options offer students the opportunity to select the seating from which they can best learn, whether that may be from a traditional classroom chair, a bean bag, or a chair that allows for movement. The flexible seating options--specifically the Jellyfish Jr. chairs & Wobble stools--I have selected allow students to appropriately and positively channel their excess energy and satisfy children’s need for movement. In this way, these flexible seating options work to increase alertness and attention. Studies suggest that children who engage in physical activity have more on-task behavior, especially in those students who are least likely to be on-task initially. If I am able to acquire these seating options, I will be able to offer students the choice to use them in the classroom during instruction at their tables and during carpet time as well.
Ultimately, the introduction of flexible seating to my classroom would increase student engagement and allow for more learning to occur.
The principal goal of this project is to create a classroom environment in which all children can flourish and experience academic success.
