My students need flexible seating options to help lessen their anxiety and increase focus during work time. Wobble chairs and more comfortable seating options will improve their attitude and behavior during Resource time.
I teach 8th grade students with Special Education needs. All of the students on my caseload have Emotional or Behavioral Disabilities. Some students also have a diagnosis of a learning disability or autism. Many of my students struggles with anxiety.
Students with EBD can be challenging to work with but they all have a lot of potential!
I'm always looking for ways to help them keep their behaviors under control and keep them relaxed as possible about the pressures of 8th grade.
My Project
My students have Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities. Right now, our classroom has old tables and stationary chairs. My students will benefit from having newer seating options that are attractive and comfortable.
Flexible seating options will allow students to move while continuing to work.
This should help encourage students to come to class with better attitudes and work ethic. These newer seating options will make our classroom a place that students want to spend their time.
Better seating options will also help increase the sense of community we have in our classroom. We don't expect adults to pull up a hard chair at a rectangular table every time we start a discussion. Let's help kids get ready for the real world.
