Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 20 very verbal, energetic, and amazing First graders. My students are diverse in gender, ethnicity, race, ability, and learning styles. "What we learn becomes a part of who we are!" I believe this quote from Kathy Jeffords is the essence of my loving students.
We are a Title I school where 70% are living in poverty.
My students are creative and eager to learn and deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential. Our day is filled with activities that help my students explore and develop new concepts and practice those we have previously learned.
My Project
As an educator I want my students to be comfortable in our classroom. Flexible seating helps the "busy" learners stay focused and actively engaged in learning.
A variety of seating options will ensure that my students will feel more comfortable in all areas of our classroom.
Our older bean bags need to have some filling added to be comfortable once again and we are in need of some new bean bags to complete our library area. The library area is where we do our independent reading. The more comfortable they are the more they will read. Our lamps need replacement bulbs to make our library feel like home when doing our reading. We also need some new stools for our work around the reading table. These will allow for storage of books as well as a nice place to sit.
With budget cuts this year paper and laminating supplies are in short supply. These supplies are necessary in a first grade classroom for activities in our reading and math stations. These activities enhance what we are learning in the classroom. These also allow for books to be made to put in our book baskets for independent and partner reading.
