My students need Active Kids Chairs (wobble chairs), book bins to store their supplies, Stability Balance Discs (wobble cushions), and Chair Bands for fidgety feet to help us transform our classroom to allow flexible seating.
Each of my first grade students are of various ethnic backgrounds, have their own stories, strengths/weaknesses, unique home-lives, disorders/disabilities, personalities, likes/dislikes, and dreams/wishes. But with all those labels and variances set aside, they are KIDS.
I want our classroom to be a space where they can express themselves freely, explore creatively, and learn in a way that allows them to be successful in an environment that motivates them to love learning.
The traditional, classroom seating style is beginning to become a thing of the past. The present-day classroom should not only enhance students' quality of education, but enhance the quality of their learning environment that they spend most of their childhood days in out of the calendar year.
My Project
By donating, you are helping us toss out the hard, plastic chairs for kid-friendly flexible seating! My students need wobble chairs, book bins to store their supplies (once traditional desks have been removed), wobble cushions, and chair bands to help us 100% transform our classroom to allow for flexible seating. Flexible seating allows students to have free choice and feel empowered within their own classroom by letting students choose where and how they learn best. Your donations will give all of my students the ability to work and explore creatively!
The various flexible seating choices lets students become KIDS again by instilling the true feeling of joyful learning while they are rocking, wobbling, bouncing, and fidgeting!
Other teachers have noticed that by implementing flexible seating, students are more comfortable while working, have positive attitudes towards learning, show more academic growth, and are more eager to participate instead of feeling irritable and restrained to work at a traditional desk and chair. Your donations will allow students to work in Daily 5 centers, math centers, work independently, and together in small groups around the classroom more easily and accessibly once all of the traditional desks have been removed. As well as, build students' overall stamina across all subject areas.
