Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I school which means ninety percent or more students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students are from low income households where most come from non-English speaking parents.
Sadly, many of my students have failed third grade already and began this school year with minimal resources.
Despite the hardships they endure, my students are eager to come to school to learn every day.
They enjoy participating, working collaboratively and motivating each other to work hard; however, they are very limited on their access to technology. Together, with a little push and help, I am confident our class will succeed and surpass expectations! None of us is as strong as all of us!
My Project
My class is made up of a diverse group of students. Even though my students are diverse, right now my classroom is not. I am excited to introduce STEM activities and projects in order to motivate my students. I want to allow students the opportunity to choose where they sit; however, the options are limited to desks and chairs alone. Research has shown that flexible seating allows students to engage in the learning process better.
With flexible seating, students can work together on STEM activities and projects and feel comfortable at the same time.
Group seating arrangements with varied seating options will allow my students to create LEGO cars using STEM strategies. Students can use balance balls as seating while learning math strategies with colored block games. Your donation to this project will allow my students to begin to see a flexible seating arrangement in the classroom as well as more hands on learning through STEM strategies.
