My students need flexible seating options. Active Learning Stools will provide movement while learning. Portable lap desks give new choices of learning spots. Fluorescent light covers soften the harsh lighting given off by fluorescent lights.
Students in my classroom are from a rural community. More than 80% of the students in our school are on free or reduced lunches, live in subsidized housing, and live in a single parent household.
In spite of all this, my students are resilient and have a strong desire to be the best they can be.
Even though close to half of my current classroom are students who have an IEP with various needs like ADD, specific learning disabilities, and other health impairments, the classroom environment is that of a family working together.
My Project
I have started flexible seating in my classroom this year, and it has made a positive difference. Students are able to come to the classroom each morning and choose a spot that is just right for their learning style.
Some students have so many wiggles that they enjoy sitting on the yoga balls.
While others prefer the gentle swaying side to side of a swivel chair. Sometimes a student wants to take their materials around the room to work in a quiet space all by themselves.
The items I have chosen will help build our collection of flexible seating options. The wobble stools will provide ways for children to wobble appropriately without breaking or bending the legs on stools. The lap desks will give students a chance to sit around the room on the floor and have a sturdy place to work at. The light covers will provide better lighting instead of the harsh lighting of fluorescent lights. All these materials will be beneficial to our brain balanced classroom.
