Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third year teacher of a brilliant second grade dual language class. My students come from different backgrounds with the one goal; which is to enjoy school and learn. It is very rewarding to see all twenty three of my students ready to learn something new. The challenge is to ensure I can meet all of their needs based on their learning. I try to engage them with some technology and real experiences some of they might not have the opportunity to have because of their socio economic status. I want to keep giving them the experiences they need in order to be engaged, thrive and a safe environment they need to learn.
Much of our community was heavily impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
There were students who had lost almost everything and felt out of place. My goal is to help my students stay focused and be comfortable when they are in my classroom ready to learn.
My Project
Most of my classes are made up of about 24 amazing individuals every year. Each and every one of them with their own unique learning style. Having flexible seating options in the classroom for the students will provide them with the space they need to be comfortable and ready to learn. Some of the options would be seating such as, yoga balls, wobbly stools and floor chairs.
When students are given the oportunity to choose from a variety of seating options, they will be more engaged and demonstrate their best work.
We did a class survey and students preferred chairs that allows them to move. Alternative seating that allows students to be active while learning will be something they will be able to achieve with your help!
