My students are lively, energetic, and come ready and excited to learn. The students in our school are respectful, kind, and work as a team.
As a first grade teacher moving to second, I am excited about the opportunity to give my students flexible options, autonomy and choice.
We have a very high performing school with inspiring teachers and staff. However, our financial budget is very limited. Encouraging movement and flexibility in the classroom will empower my students to grow and thrive.
My Project
Six and seven year old students thrive on movement and choice. Developmentally, children have a need for movement. Flexible seating including floor cushions, bouncy balls to sit in, and floor chairs will allow my students the opportunity to change positions throughout the day, as opposed to sitting in standard student chairs. This, in turn, will give them autonomy, choice, and empowerment.
As a teacher with an alternative seating classroom, I will have the opportunity to put students in small groups, work as teams, and engage their minds as they move positions throughout the day.
It will be easier for them to collaborate and work together. Flexible seating will also give them the opportunity to explore and discover their best learning environment.
