Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have completed my first year of teaching in the 5th grade, and it was a spectacular year! We learned so much from each other, and at the end of the year, we were not ready to say so long. Now that I am moving on to my second year, I feel amazing about what the year holds.
When my students enter my classroom, I want them to feel welcomed and supported in their learning environment.
I will encourage them to explore and stretch their thinking beyond what they believe they can do. I will push them to be their best and will support them so they can continue being the positive light in our community.
I am excited to meet my fresh 5th graders, many of whom I met previously, and they are a fantastic group of students. They appreciate their teachers and their hard work and I will work diligently to continue the positive educational path they are on to ready them for their new journey into middle school.
My Project
The current flexible seating is a big hit in the classroom. The students have a seat and a desk for direct instruction, but when it comes to independent work, I like to give them the option to choose where they would like to work. This gives them the opportunity to even have partner discussions in a quieter area.
The power of choice gives the students a sense of ownership of the classroom and their learning.
This choice includes being responsible enough to work efficiently while working in a comfortable learning environment. The students really understand that flexible seating is a privilege and love to utilize it throughout the day.
