Flexible Seating Increases Engagement and Success!
My students need the flexible seating, along with the lap trays, so they can work in a quiet space. This equipment will enable students to be able to focus on tasks and strengthen skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse/socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them are from single-parent homes, foster homes, or live with someone other than their parents. My students are learning to navigate successfully within the educational environment.
Flexible seating opportunities provide a way for them to choose where they are going to work, especially when they are not able to do that in a conventional table setting.
Sitting at a table with 5 other students can be a challenge for some children to remain engaged and focused on the task assigned. Cooperative learning is a crucial part of our learning day; however, there are times that students need to be able to work independently, without distractions and interruptions that can occur when sitting with a larger group.
Flexible seating will also provide students with attention concerns something to work for that encourages engagement in daily tasks more successfully by giving them an out of the box learning situation. This helps them to be more focused and on task because it is a special, different way to learn than just being at the regular table.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting next to tables with clipboards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clipboard. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their tables.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The floor seats will allow students to keep a designated space, but still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to be in a separate space. The floor seats will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom. The trays will provide an additional support for those who find clipboards difficult to handle and write on.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more and increase successful participation!
