Flexible Seating in the Lab

Help me give my students opportunities for flexible seating and collaboration spaces in the chemistry lab. 24" stools will allow for choosing seating at lab counters rather than traditional desks. White boards will provide surfaces for collaborative work.

My Project

I love that my students are willing to work hard everyday to understand the challenging concepts we encounter in chemistry. Collaborative problem solving and peer group work have always been an important part of my class. Unfortunately, remote and hybrid learning during the last two years made effective group work nearly impossible.

As we move closer to normalcy following the pandemic, it is truly fantastic to see my students so happy to be working together again.

Flexible seating throughout my classroom will offer more options for peer collaboration. Students will be able to spread out around the room, utilizing lab counters as work space.

It has been my observation that students have been a little slow to open up and take risks with their learning and understanding since returning to a regular classroom environment, but they are making big strides now. Problem solving on white boards has been incredibly helpful as it has led to great dialogue between students regarding their process. I would like to have white boards at the lab counters so that students who choose these work spaces will have them available for their collaborative work.
