My classroom is made up of a group of students ages 3 to 5 years. We are a blended preschool program and work with both students who qualify based on developmental delay and those who pay to attend. We are a special education program and we work with students with a variety of developmental delays such as Autism, communication disorders, Down Syndrome, physical delays, behavior issues and other adaptive/social needs. Working with a variety of students with developmental delays means we adapt a lot of assignments and curriculum to meet the needs of all students, so that every child has a chance to learn and play!
Our school is located in an area with many low income families and families who move in and out frequently.
Therefore, we have a high turnover rate and are always working with new students and families to get them as prepared for Kindergarten as we possibly can!
Our students are eager to come in, learn, play and engage with both their teachers and their peers. We have a morning class for 2.45 hours and an afternoon class for 2.45 hours. These classes are made up of small groups, circle time, free choice, and more!
My Project
This project is specifically for those students who have a hard time sitting in a large group setting on the carpet, specifically those kids who need a little bit more room, a little bit more wiggle and more options! Having the option to use a wobble chair, a bean bag or a large pillow will help increase participation in my classroom!
These objects will also help create a crash pad or quiet corner for any student that just needs a break.
Sometimes it is nice to have that corner and that designated space to take a break without having any consequences; these supplies will give students that chance and opportunity while feeling safe in their classroom community.
