Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a group of amazing students who are always ready for a challenge. They are always looking for new ways to work together.
They walk into my room each day ready to learn and explore in new ways, they are always ready to explore and discover.
They come from hard working families and are always ready to learn, explore and challenge themselves.
Our classroom is always filled with laughs, conversations, discussions and acceptance. My students are caring and always looking out for each other and love learning together.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and work in a space that is best suited for their needs. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, or sitting or laying on the floor. There options are very limited. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
My students have been noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive to their peers when they are given a choice of where to work throughout the day.
I have carefully selected a number of items that will give my students the opportunity to make choices that will have a positive effect of their learning. The carpet cushions are a great addition and an easy item for kids to grab, sit and begin working, they can easily be moved throughout the classroom. The stools along with the bean bag chairs are light weight and can be easily moved throughout the classroom to make learning more effective.
I have seen how choices can positively affect my students work and attitude and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
