Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come everyday prepared to learn. They are eager to learn everyday they come to school. These students work so hard to show growth everyday.
This is my third year teaching at a Title I school in Las Vegas, Nevada.
100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
For most of the students school is the only thing consistent in their lives. Most of these students do not have books, internet, or technology at home. Despite these hardships these students come everyday to school ready to be successful.
My Project
My students have to sit at desks for almost three hours everyday during independent work. Providing flexible seating for students will make them feel empowered by allowing them to chose their location and change positions as needed.
We have all sat in long meetings or classes where we just need to sit somewhere more comfortable.
My hope is for students to be comfortable. A student who is not comfortable is distracted. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm and focused.
A futon, big joe chair, and a convert-a-bench will help students be more comfortable during independent class time.
