My classroom is full of students who enjoy interacting. They need hands-on activities to really engage in and remember the lesson. We spend every day trying to find ways to interact with learning to make it fun and memorable.
"If a child cannot learn the way we teach... we must teach in a way the child can learn." -Ivar Lovaas
Our school is in a rural area of North Carolina.
We are a kindergarten through fourth grade elementary school with over 600 students. My classroom is a combination third and fourth grade filled with a group of great students. My self-contained, special education classroom is made up of children with a variety of disabilities ranging from autism to learning disabilities to orthopedic impairment.
My Project
The students in my classroom have a hard time keeping their minds focused and their bodies engaged. I have several students who struggle to stay engaged because they need movement in order to focus. A child with ADHD and ADD can struggle a lot in the classroom; however, with a simple tool such as the balance ball chair, they will have an easier time concentrating. These chairs will also be a great motivator for my students. They will be excited to come to the group table where the chairs will be during group. They will also love to have the chairs at their desks. I would love to see all children in my classroom grow and achieve great things, and I believe these chairs are the start to helping them excel.
