Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach very active and energetic second graders. I teach at a high risk/poverty school where every student receives free breakfast and lunch. My second graders are an awesome group of kids and are always coming to school eager to learn. Most of my class is below grade level, and most have only used technology in school because they do not have access to it elsewhere. Their desire and eagerness to learn new things is what keeps them motivated to be at school daily.
My Project
My second graders love to get up and move around the room; these wobble cushions will give them the ability to move and fidget while staying in their seat.
Students at this age have a difficult time sitting still.
Some have ADHD or ADD and that makes it hard for them to just sit and focus on what they are suppose to be working on.
We need 1 more Kids Kore Wobble Chair to complete our class set. We also need 6 wobble disks to use at our writing center. Our writing center is low to the ground and the kids love being able to sit on the floor, however, they often complain of it hurting when they sit for too long. These wobble disks will be the perfect addition to our flexible seating options because the students will still be able to sit on the floor, however, they will have a little more cushion under them!
Flexible seating is becoming more common in schools and allows the child to choose where they best learn. Why should we hold back our students from doing their best because they are confined to a normal desk and chair?
