Mrs. Hardner from Norfolk VA is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Wobble chairs and balance ball seats to students provide a physical challenge and opportunity to release energy while simultaneously working. These chairs will help them focus on a task while activating their core muscles.

NES is a small elementary school serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. Many of our students come from low income and single parent households. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, and our cafeteria runs a dinner program so that no child under the age of 18 goes hungry after school.
The students in my classroom are scientists, mathematicians, readers, historians, explorers and adventurers.
Students will spend this year building a foundation in math and science that will help them be successful throughout the rest of their school career.
Each child in my classroom loves learning, and approaches learning differently so many learning strategies are used. These strategies include kinesthetic, visual and audio strategies. We incorporate a variety of instructional strategies that include group work, small group instruction and personal choices about how we complete activities. I am such a lucky teacher to be in a classroom with students who want to learn every day!
My students need wobble chairs and balance ball seats to students provide a physical challenge and opportunity to release energy while simultaneously working. These chairs will help them focus on a task while activating their core muscles. Research shows that allowing students to choose a seat that works for them gives students a sense of empowerment. This will help them take ownership of their learning. Another benefit to flexible seating is building community. Traditional desks can make students feel territorial. Flexible seating will encourage shared supplies and shared space and create a sense of classroom community. An uncomfortable student is an unhappy and unproductive student. Imagine allowing students the flexibility to choose a seat that is comfortable to them. Flexible seating allows students to choose their best spot to stay calm, focused and on task.
