A large percentage of students at my school come from a disadvantaged socio-economic background. Many of these students primary language is not English and school can be a struggle for them.
It is a goal in my classroom to make learning fun and engaging.
I want students to want to come to school each day and be excited to learn. I believe that classroom environment and community are key factors in helping students feel safe at school and allows them to be successful in their learning.
My Project
First graders have a hard time sitting in any spot for long periods of time. In my classroom, we do lots of transitions so that students don't have to stay in one place for too long. When I am trying to get work done, the first place I choose to sit is never on the hard plastic chair, it is on my comfy sofa. This is the same for my students, when given the choice their classroom chairs aren't first pick., they go for the pillows or the sofa. I want my students to have the choice of picking the most successful seating for them. Having these wobble chairs, and bouncy chairs will give them more options for the best seating for them.
Many students have attention issues, if given the choice of a wobble/bouncy chair this could help eliminate any behaviors that arise.
Students spend so much of their time in the classroom they need to be comfortable. By giving them the option to choose a chair that allows them to move, I believe students will be more engaged in their learning. Please help my students and give them the choice...the choice of differentiated/flexible seating!
