This year I have the pleasure of teaching 23 diverse students in my first-grade classroom in a Minneapolis, MN suburb. My students are all beginning the year at different academic and developmental levels. I am excited to begin grouping the students allowing them to meet new friends in the classroom!
My hope is that my students learn from me just as I will learn from them.
I know that this school year will be a great year where my students will learn many new things.
My Project
For my first year of teaching, I would love to incorporate flexible seating at my kidney table. I envision using the Wobble Chairs at the kidney table which I will use for guided reading, writing, and math groups. I would also love Wobble Cushions to use in my reading corner.
These Wobble Chairs and Cushions allow my students to engage in active seating.
One benefit of the wobble chairs is they improve student posture by strengthening their core muscles which helps with their fine motor skills. These chairs also allow students to get their wiggles out when they are sitting for long periods of time. This is essential for them during small group intervention! By getting the wiggles out in a non-disruptive way, they are able to stay focussed for longer periods of time! The cushions in the library will allow my students to stay focused while reading.
