Help me give my students flexible seating options. All of these items will encourage greater collaboration, communication, and interaction between students.The wobble chair is especially great in the classroom because it allows movement while keeping the mind focused.
I teach first grade in a self contained Title 1 classroom. This year I have 12 energetic, happy, out of the box thinkers. We are located in a rural community on the outskirts of Stephenville, TX. Most of my kids have knowledge in the farming and ranching industry.
My group of first graders are one of a kind.
They love to read books about animals and Junie. B Jones. They enjoy thinking like scientist and building everyday objects into their own creations. This is a very special group of hands on, kinesthetic learners that could benefit from any extra resources given to them.
My Project
The learners in schools today learn differently than they did several years ago. They have been engulfed into a fast paced society where technology is their main form of learning and entertainment. I want my classroom to help reinforce the way my students learn, and flexible seating will help do that.
Flexible seating is based on research and best practices for kids.
It helps create a classroom environment that is conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are the least on-task. The flexible seating options I have chosen for my students allow for them to be physically active in the classroom, while keeping their brains focused on the task at hand.
