Flexible Seating in a Blended High School Classroom.
Help me give my students a comfortable place to work. The bean bag chairs will be used for a work space where students can meet to discuss group work, read, or have class discussion.
Our classes involves one self contained class and four blended English 9 classes. We have a variety of different students, who have a variety of different needs. One way have decided to support them is to introduce flexible seating & an inviting comfortable classroom.
Our students work in groups daily.
One set of groups is organized into skill level, while the other set of groups involve a variety of different levels. This project will help with group work as well as give the students an environment where they feel comfortable.
Many of our students cannot bring in school supplies for themselves; the organizers will be placed at each station and give the students the supplies they need to be successful. Many of our students are motivated, but lack the supplies to do so. We want to give them the environment and structure to be successful.
My Project
We have spent a lot of own money bringing in a futon, wing-back chairs, and different types of tables that help implement group work with flexible seating. This project would help finish up the seating and organization in our classroom. The bean bag chairs would complete the working space for one area of our classroom. The clipboards would give the students a solid working space in this area.
We have created five work stations for our students.
The students move from station to station each day of the week, or on a given day they may move to each station within one class period. In each station, we want to provide the students with supplies that will lead to their success. The pencil organizers would supply the highlighters, colored pens and post-it notes to be used for close reading activities.
