Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My international-minded students come from a variety of backgrounds, with many different values and beliefs.
However, in our classroom, we have one thing in common: becoming the best versions of ourselves in order to make
meaningful contributions to our community and world.
Our school community serves a large population of English Language Learners and special education students.
We are an accredited IB school and I want our classroom learning experiences to be molded to the needs of my students. This group of students posses a variety of needs, including sensory support. They all bring a wealth of experiences, traditions, religions, and knowledge to our classroom. They teach me, and each other, each and every day.
My Project
Flexible seating is a tool that helps students have control of their physical environment. It helps them control their surroundings by giving them the comfort to stay engaged and focused on learning. This will lead to increased student engagement as well as higher motivation and academic performance. In addition to more engagement flexible seating will improve overall behavior. Students that utilize flexible seating are more likely to be on task because they can focus better. I have already incorporated standing and sitting desks as well as mini tables and floor seats for students to choose from. I am missing other seating options. This project will help me complete my flexible seating goals for my students.
