Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My sixth-grade science classes are comprised of approximately 150 amazing students, many of whom come from very diverse cultures and backgrounds. I teach a wide range of students from the magnet program, ESE students, as well as advanced and gifted classes.
Our middle school strives to provide an excellent education for grades 6-8 and provides a rigorous academic course load that is made possible by the fantastic teachers and staff who work in tandem to create a safe and accessible learning environment for all of our students.
Curious minds want to know; all about science that is! Students at my class have the desire and passion to learn. They are motivated and full of wonder about the world we live in and the problems they will have to solve. They are the out-of-the-box problem solvers and thinkers of tomorrow.
Help me create the most engaging science classroom these students have ever encountered. From Glow Review parties to edible labs, this is a great opportunity to show them another way that learning can be fun!
My Project
Sometimes traditional seating in class, despite one's best efforts, can result in fidgeting or less-than-alert students. A flexible seating option including stability balls and figit bands would allow students to choose seating that better meets their physical needs and gives them a sense of choice/control in the classroom.
Having a choice in seating that would allow students to stretch and move while collaborating with classmates would allow them to better focus on learning.
I want to allow my students to sit where they feel comfortable, whether that is in a chair, on a desk, or even on the floor. Being in a "non-science" classroom, my only option for seating is the desk/chair combination.
We also need clorox wipes to keep all of our new seating clean and germ free!
My students will be able to work in quieter areas of the room, read a book on the floor, or collaborate with peers comfortably and not just in the tiny desks I provide.
