What second-year teacher can say that they are able to spend their first two years in their profession with the same group of students? This teacher can! Looping was an easy choice for me, because of the relationship I have with my kiddos.
My students amaze me each day with their intelligence, caring attitudes towards others, and their perseverance.
They are hilarious, they keep me on my toes, and are always willing to take on any challenge. I love them for these reasons (and more!).
As 5th graders, I know they will be a positive influence on the younger students at school. Some of them already have assigned responsibilities for the upcoming year, and our school is constantly finding ways to pair older students with younger students for projects and special learning experiences. I am sure that my students are ready to be the best role models they can be for the younger students! I could go on forever talking about my students and how much they mean to me and our school community as a whole.
My Project
I would love to be able to provide my students with more flexible seating options! Stools and camping chairs will add to our growing list of flexible seating options in my classroom!
Research proves that flexible seating serves many benefits to students and the classroom environment in which they spend so much time.
I am a strong advocate for flexible seating, because I believe that students deserve a choice. From my experiences so far, students who are given choices are more likely to stay engaged longer and care more about what they are learning or doing. I also want my students to be comfortable! I don't want to sit on a hard plastic chair all day, so what makes us think our ten year-olds should?
My teaching philosophy is all about teamwork, collaboration, and student-choice; what would be a better way to incorporate this into my classroom than to have awesome flexible seating options? I want to meet the needs of all students as best as I can, and I strongly believe having more flexible seating options will be a great way to have students' needs met!
