Third grade is an exciting year of great academic importance. My students have a wide variety of both interests and abilities. With intense pressure for performing well on state tests, my third graders will face many academic challenges throughout the year.
I teach at a low income school, and next year I will have 20-22 third grade students.
My students struggle with sitting in regular chairs, especially for long periods of time. My goal is to provide my students with a flexible seating environment that will allow them more movement while learning, in turn enhancing both their academic ability, and their desire to learn.
I have personally seen and experienced how flexible seating classrooms can improve academic performance, attention, and behavior. By providing different seating options, my students will be more successful in the classroom. With your help, I can provide that type of classroom environment for my students!
My Project
These new seating options will enhance learning by providing my students with opportunities for movement while learning, which also increases physical health. Sitting in a traditional hardback desk chair all day often comes with complaints of discomfort and the need to move. Providing my students with comfortable seating options that also allow for movement will help them to be more productive and less distracted.
My goal is always to make learning fun, and flexible seating will aid so much in helping them learn to love their school experience, and the learning process.
Choice is such a powerful tool in the classroom. It is empowering and comforting at the same time. Giving students choices is so rewarding for both them and myself. They learn how to make appropriate choices for themselves and gain more independence and understanding of the importance of making good choices for themselves. Flexible seating choices will be a great incentive to help my students stay focused and on task. The donation of these chair and table alternatives will be a great asset to my students, my classroom, and myself!
