I teach at a tiny rural Title I school in a very small town in Vermont. The classrooms are all multi-age, and the staff is very few. We only have a principal two days a week, and a nurse one day a week! Many things beyond their control have impacted their learning successes.
The students are creative, fun and struggling with focusing on core academic areas.
They enjoy learning, but often social and emotional needs directly impact their academic success. The kiddos are like brothers and sisters in this tiny school!
I would love to receive the materials chosen to create an engaging learning environment for my students. I have many special needs students and trauma-affected students that struggle with focus and attention.
The best thing I see in my classroom is when students have chosen their seat for the day and are engaged in reading alone or with a partner, writing stories, and collaborating with others.
Just like adults, students know how they learn best - when I read at home, I don't want to sit at a desk, I want to be comfortable so all of my attention is on the process of reading. Same with my students!! It truly makes my classroom warm and inviting to offer them choices in seating.
Since we already have a futon (their favorite learning space!) I am requesting a cover for the futon to keep it clean and comfy. My students love folding Bungee Web Chairs because they allow the students to bounce a little without distracting others; movement is a must for some of my kiddos! They also love when a teacher chair is open for use, so I figured a couple student sized office chairs would be a hit. The metal stack stools would be used during small groups at our teacher-directed table during math, reading and writing.
