Flexible Seating Fosters Focus, Collaboration and Engagement
My students need Wobble Chairs and Flex Space Ball Seats in order to remain focused on academic learning activities, while working on developing their balance and trunk muscle development throughout the school day.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a school where 85% of students receive free or reduced price lunch. My students are aged 3-5 years old and all have Individualized Education Plans. My students are curious, full of energy and life and always eager to learn! They love learning new skills and are proud of their own successes and those of their peers. My ultimate goal is to give my students a positive learning experience in a school setting, setting the foundation for a love of learning and a love of school.
Students learn best through hands-on experiences and through the process rather than always have to produce a product.
We are a classroom family learning patience, empathy, and acceptance for everyone.
My Project
Sitting still is “old school”, a thing of the past. Sitting still is uncomfortable for students, especially for little ones who are still learning about body space awareness. Students who can move and get comfortable are more attentive, eager to participate and less likely to distract peers. All students need opportunities for movement to remain focused on learning tasks throughout the day. My students are engaged in movement activities through songs and gross motor opportunities, but many of my students need more than that to remained focused on academic learning tasks.
Providing my students Flex-Space Ball Seats will offer my students seating to allow for good posture, developing their trunk muscles, sensory input, and a different choice of seating while still being able to move and groove while working at a table or a computer.
Having Wobble Chairs will allow them slight movement, sensory input, the ability to strengthen muscles in their trunk and legs for balance without disrupting their classmates. These flexible seating options are durable, lightweight and my students will have the option of using them in several areas of the classroom.
I see having flexible seating options in my classroom as a tool to provide my students with problem solving skills and social-emotional skills. Students will problem solve to see which flexible seating tool works best for them and how much sensory input they need at any given time. Students will also work together with peers and develop a system of sharing or taking turns so that everyone has an opportunity to use each flexible seating tool. Classrooms should be warm, inviting and nurturing and I believe that providing my students with flex-space seating options it will achieve this goal. I see my students engagement and participating increasing and behavior issues decreasing with these wonderful seating options.
